Kottarashky is nickname of Nikola Gruev, an architect by education, born in Sofia in 1979.
After several years of experience in digital music and sampling, he publishes some of his songs on Myspace. Western labels shows interest, and so in November 2009 the debut album "Opa Hey" appears for the world, issued by the Asphalt tango records (Berlin). This label keeps serious traditions in the Balkan and Eastern European music, and works with performers within
stand out the names of Fanfare ciocarlia, Mahala rai banda, La cherga and others.
The album achieved good success: it stays for 5 months in the European chart for ethno music - World Music Charts Europe, reaching third place for the month of February and in March was announced as album of the month by the great world music journalist Charlie Guillait working for BBC. Some pieces have already been issued in compilations.
In March 2010 Kottarashky Live Band has been formed with the idea that the music from the album to be performed live. The result is a quite different sound and new arrangements in which each member of the band contributes with his talant.
